Horses have been a lifelong passion for both Mac & Gayle. In 2000 they moved to Cantaur Park Station and registered their horse stud prefix (Cantaur Park). They began building their horse breeding operation and improving on their horse genetics for both work and competition horses. Stepping out to purchase the young 2 yr old colt ‘One Moore Daddy’ in 2006 helped elevate their breeding program and begin their years of successes in breeding, selling and competing both Australian Stock Horses and Quarter Horses.

In recent years Mac & Gayle have not competed at as many Campdrafts as they once did, but the results are no less successful. They have an outstanding line up of impeccably bred competition horses which they either breed or flush each year to keep producing highly sort after progeny.

Mac & Gayle Shann together manage and run Lamont Droughtmaster Stud and have done since the year 2000. The stud name was derived and registered by Gayle’s father Alan Atkinson in the 1980’s to honour his father Monty Atkinson (Robert Lamont) who was instrumental in founding the breed and forming the Droughtmaster Society. Cantaur Park is the property they own and run together and is found 160km NE of Clermont in Central Qld.
Mac & Gayle run a stud and commercial breeding operation. The commercial Droughtmaster breeders are mated predominantly to top quality Charolais bulls to produce the much sort after Charmasters.
Lamont Stud sells a sample of their stud sire offerings at the Droughtmaster National Sale each year in September, and sell the majority of their bulls through the Monty Atkinson Genetics Sale (MAGS) in Charters Towers every November in conjunction with other family members. Lamont Stud have invested heavily in bull genetics over the past decade or more and it’s a true passion of theirs. With a strong emphasis on fertility, temperament, confirmation, bone, weight-for-age, and overall structure and soundness, Mac and Gayle strive to achieve excellence in their herd by strategic selection of sires, DNA technology and rigorous culling.
